Grab a drink and get comfortable — this one's hands-on in the best way. Instead of a canvas, you're working with thick, looping yarn, building a chunky knit blanket from scratch with your own two hands. No needles, no hooks, no prior experience — I'll meet you where you are and we'll figure it out together. The blanket itself is the whole vibe: soft, cozy, something you'll actually take home and use. I'm Joyce, and I've been running nights like this for a long time because watching people surprise themselves never gets old. Broadway Bar and Grill gives us a relaxed, casual space to spread out, laugh a lot, and make something real.

Questions about what to expect, what’s included, and how it all works.
Yes. Chunky Blanket Making with Friends is designed to be achievable at any experience level. More satisfying than it looks difficult — Joyce (Of Art!!) breaks every step down clearly. Most of our guests have never picked up a brush before, and they leave with something they're genuinely proud of. Worth knowing: Chunky Blankets events happen at real bars and restaurants, not studios — it's a night out that happens to involve painting.
Joyce (Of Art!!) is a real local artist based in Ottawa — not a franchise employee or a corporate hire. 83 out of 96 guests who've painted with Joyce (Of Art!!) say the instruction was amazing. GAIL C. said: 'Joyce's events are always lively and fun. I always learn something new from her teaching.'
Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello is a local venue in Ottawa — a real local spot, not a dedicated painting studio. Chunky Blankets events happen at places like this by design — venues with character, regulars, and a bar. It can get lively. That's what makes it a night out rather than a class. 33% of guests who've attended events at Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello rated the atmosphere highly.
Yes — we have 193 upcoming events in Ottawa this month. You can view them here.
Your ticket to Chunky Blanket Making with Friends includes the canvas, all the paint you'll need, the use of brushes and an apron during the event, and step-by-step instruction from Joyce (Of Art!!). Drinks and food are ordered separately from Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello — you pay the venue directly for anything you eat or drink.
Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello's event starts at 7:00 PM. We suggest showing up by 6:30 PM to give yourself time to pick your seats, get a drink and maybe a bite before Joyce (Of Art!!) starts the painting.
You can reschedule your ticket to any other Chunky Blankets event up to 24 hours before this one starts. After that, tickets are locked — no refunds or changes. If Chunky Blankets cancels this event for any reason, you'll receive a full automatic refund.
This event has reached our minimum attendance threshold and is guaranteed to run. If we ever have to cancel a guaranteed event, every ticket holder receives a full automatic refund plus a free ticket to a future Chunky Blankets — no questions asked. The only exception is weather or force majeure, where full refunds are issued but free tickets are not.
