About The Green House
Welcome to The Green House - an oasis of greenery located in the heart of Iowa City!
Our talented bar-tanists use local tinctures, herbs and bitters to create specialty cocktails with a botanical twist. We offer a plethora of Iowa craft beer, locally made ciders and many other plant-themed libations both spirit-full and spirit-free.
Enjoy a moment of zen or gather with a group of friends surrounded by our ever-expanding plant collection. We have two outdoor patios, an edible garden and a multitude of cozy nooks. You will also find an Area 51-inspired gathering space with an astro-turfed floor, a preserved moss wall with popping orchids and even our own Audrey 2!

Beautifully "green" (in more ways than one) The Green House is a curated cocktail bar unlike anything else not just in Iowa City but in the entire state. Using local herbs and botanicals (including a plant wall from locally-owned and operated Beno's Flowers), the drinks I've had handily rival ones you'll find in much larger cities. The "Ripley" using local Cedar Ridge Whiskey, hibiscus simple syrup, and blood orange bitters is one of my go-to's: well-balanced and not too sweet. Parking is convenient with both on-street parking on many adjacent streets and the Washington St. ("Blue Lot") parking lot.
I met up with som friends here for the first time and loved it! They don't sell food so be aware of that before you go. I wasn't aware and ordered a drink that was way too strong for me. But the space is lovely and they have games and cards so I visited for a bit, played a few hands of solitaire, and had an order of pretzels (the most food thing you can get there). I will definitely visit again!
Great bar atmosphere and fun drinks. The service is best at the bar if busy as they don’t come around to tables much. I had the Aubrey 2 mock tail, which was good. I really enjoyed my friend’s affogato espresso drink.

Paint Nite at The Green House — FAQ
None. Your artist walks the whole room through the painting stroke by stroke over about two hours, and everyone leaves with a finished canvas. Most guests have never painted before.
There's free parking at or near The Green House.
Yes — the bar and cocktail list stays open while you paint. Food and drinks are ordered from and paid to the venue, and aren't part of your seat price.
Doors open 30 minutes before the painting starts. Come early, grab your seat and order a drink — the artist starts on time.
Yes — The Green House has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and restrooms. If you have specific seating needs, contact the venue ahead of the event and they'll set you up.
