The Pint Pot is the kind of establishment that restores your faith in both whiskey and humanity, which is no small feat in these troubled times. I arrived thirsty and immediately found myself staring into one of the finest whiskey selections in Eugene. Shelves packed with enough Irish, Scotch, and bourbon varieties to keep a determined enthusiast occupied until the next presidential administration. Rather than succumb to panic and indecision, I put my trust in the bartender and ordered an Old Fashioned. This is where things became serious. The drink was assembled with care and precision, stirred properly and served over a glorious oversized ice cube—the sort of crystal-clear frozen monument that announces to the room, "Someone here knows what they're doing." Unlike certain establishments that shall remain nameless and insist on serving excellent cocktails over ice fragments fit for a gas station soda machine, The Pint Pot understands the sacred relationship between whiskey and a proper cube of ice. The food was equally magnificent. The Irish Stew arrived rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, the kind of meal that makes you understand how generations of Irishmen survived cold weather, difficult landlords, and questionable political leadership. The Dublin Coddle was another triumph, packed with flavor and possessing the sort of honest, comforting character that modern restaurant trends spend millions trying unsuccessfully to recreate. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and gloriously unpretentious. No gimmicks. No nonsense. Just excellent food, serious whiskey, and people who clearly understand the mission. Five stars. If I lived closer, I'd eventually become part of the furniture.
My favorite restaurant in Eugene. The food is always delicious and the pour a perfect guinness. It's usually a bit more crowded than I would like, so finding a table and getting timely service can be a challenge depending on when you go.
One of my favorites! First off, our waiter was super friendly and cheerful. Second, the atmosphere matched an Irish pub so well. 3rd, the food was sooooooo good. Pretty good price for what you get. The photos tell you how good it looks, but you need to tell how it tastes. Perfection!
