Made a stop at Hi-Wire Brewing in Durham, and this is a really good spot to unwind after a long day.
Great setup both inside and out, and the whole place sits right under an old textile building, which gives it a really cool feel. If you are looking for a little bit of character with your drink, this place has it.
We ended up here because a friend who works in the building recommended it, and that was a strong recommendation. They were spot on.
Staff was fantastic. Easy to talk to, happy to let you try a few things, and helped point me in the right direction without overthinking it.
The IPAs were solid. Good, strong pours, and exactly what you are hoping for when you walk into a place like this.
Nice bonus too, you can grab food from nearby spots and have it brought right to your table, which makes it really easy to settle in and stay a while.
Really good spot in a great part of the city. Definitely worth checking out.

A great spot to enjoy the weather and have a drink. Large indoor area surrounded by a nice wrap around patio. Kid and dog friendly. They have a great selection of their beer. You can order pizza from next door if you're hungry. My only issue is due to the factory style space inside if you are hard of hearing or wear hearing aids it is difficult to hear conversations.

We visited HiWire Brewing for a (very grown-up) friend’s birthday, and honestly it turned into one of the most chaotic outings I’ve had in a long time. The space functions almost like an indoor–outdoor amphitheater, and it was completely overrun with children — think Chuck E. Cheese meets Lord of the Flies. Balls were flying through the air like a full-scale dodgeball game, conversations were nearly impossible to have, and the energy felt more like a playground than a brewery.
The layout itself is difficult to navigate, which became especially frustrating when we tried to locate a wheelchair-accessible entrance. A security guard was notably rude and unhelpful, telling us not to cut through the grass because of the number of kids running around — even though that was essentially the only way to reach the brewery from where we were directed. We were left feeling more like trespassers than guests.
One particularly frustrating piece was that the brewery states it becomes 21+ after 8:30 p.m., but that apparently applies only to the indoor space. The chaos simply shifted outdoors to the fire pit area, where kids were sliding down the hill on torn-up pizza boxes that were then left scattered across the yard. It felt misleading if you’re expecting the overall atmosphere to transition into a more adult environment later in the evening.
That said, the beer and drinks are genuinely good, and the bar operates like a well-oiled machine. Even with the crowds, the line moved quickly. The bathrooms were accessible, and I appreciated seeing signage for ordering an “Angel IPA” for anyone who might feel unsafe and need assistance.
Overall, this felt less like an adult brewery experience and more like a large indoor-outdoor playground. If you’re looking for a lively, family-focused environment, this may be a great fit. For those hoping for a relaxed night out with friends, it may not be the best choice. Unfortunately, it’s not somewhere we’re likely to return.
