Do I need any painting experience?

None. Your artist walks the whole room through the painting stroke by stroke over about two hours, and everyone leaves with a finished canvas. Most guests have never painted before.

Where do I park near Recess?

There's free parking at or near Recess.

Can I order food and drinks during the event?

Yes — the bar and cocktail list stays open while you paint. Food and drinks are ordered from and paid to the venue, and aren't part of your seat price.

How early should I arrive?

Doors open 30 minutes before the painting starts. Come early, grab your seat and order a drink — the artist starts on time.

About Recess

Recess is Tempe’s playground for grown-ups, with Smart Darts, axe throwing, a live Game Show experience, craft cocktails and a full scratch kitchen. We can host everything from intimate gatherings to large-scale events for up to 250 guests.

What a fun activity for my group of girlfriends. We started with drinks at the bar, ordered food, and then went to throw axes. The staff was awesome. Very helpful and so friendly. We all had a great night! Thank you all for such a fun time!

My husband booked a spot for us to go here on Saturday and when we arrived the place was closed and there was no one inside. Two other groups of people also showed up for their time slots while we were there and we told them it was closed. We tried calling and emailing to get a refund and never heard back. Ended up having to dispute the charge to get our money back. Very sketchy and very unprofessional. Do not book at the place

We had an awesome time at Recess. The vibe was great, the games were a lot of fun, and the atmosphere made it easy to just enjoy the experience. A huge shoutout to Nereida for being so welcoming and attentive throughout our visit. She made sure everything went smoothly and was always there when we needed something. Great customer service can really make a difference, and she definitely did. Can’t wait to come back!
